How to send a large video file that's too big to email

Email gives up at about 25 MB, and messaging apps shrink your video until it looks like soup. A minute of phone video can be more than both allow. Here is the quickest way to get a long video to someone, free, with nothing to install.

Email stops at about 25 MB. Send a video up to 3 GB free, with nothing to install.

Three steps, about a minute

01

Add the video

Drop it in or pick it from your phone. Any format, up to 3 GB per send. Add more than one if you like.

02

Type their email, confirm yours

Up to 5 people. We send you a quick code to confirm your address, so nobody can send as you.

03

They get a link

It arrives by email. They tap it and the video downloads, full size; no account, no app. The link lasts 7 days.

Why it's too big

Email

Most mail services stop at 20 to 25 MB per message. That is a few seconds of good video.

Messaging apps

They send, but they compress hard. A crisp clip arrives blurry and blocky, and there is no way back to the original.

Your phone's video

Roughly: a minute of 1080p is about 60 MB; a minute of 4K is 170 to 400 MB, depending on the frame rate. An 8-minute 4K clip can pass 2 GB.

What arrives is what you sent

The file is delivered as it is, not re-encoded, so what they download is byte for byte the video you added. Every file is malware-scanned and safety-checked before it is released, and it is deleted when the link expires.

Questions people ask

Can I send it from my phone?

Yes. Open ivesentit.com in your phone's browser and add the video from your camera roll. There is also an iPhone and iPad app. The other person can download it on a phone too.

Will it lose quality?

No. The file is not compressed or converted on the way; the other person downloads exactly what you sent.

How long does the link last?

Seven days on a free send. With a Pro account you can choose up to 31 days.

Does the other person need an account?

No. They open the link in any browser, the video downloads, and that is it.

Is it private?

Only people with the link can open it. The video is stored in the EU or the US, whichever is nearer to you, malware-scanned and safety-checked before release, and deleted when the link expires. Your files are used for one thing: delivering them.

What if it's over 3 GB?

Pro sends files up to 3 TB, and you can try it free for a few days. Or trim the clip: most phones can cut a video to a shorter piece before you share it.
